1701. Centre charts out comprehensive plan to boost toy production
- 8,366 MSMEs registered in toy manufacturing (NIC codes). Annual National Toy Fair to be conducted by Ministry of Textiles. BIS certification mandatory for all toys since Jan 1, 2021.
- Focus on toys made from recyclable materials and Indian values. IITs, NID, MSME Ministry to support design, technology upgrades, and innovation. Media campaigns via DD & AIR to promote toys and warn about harmful online games.
- The Indian government is involving various ministries like Textiles, Education, Railways, Culture, and MSME to promote indigenous toy development, education-based use of toys, and export potential.
- Toys will be used as teaching tools in schools and Anganwadi’s—based on folk tales, farm tools, and Indian legends. Plans include Toy Labs, Made-in-India Toy Day, and science fairs with toy themes.
- Government will promote toys made from recyclable materials, develop toy clusters, establish toy circles and resource centers, and curb low-quality imports through quality testing in certified labs.
- Public broadcasters like Doordarshan and AIR will air toy-related programmed. Campaigns will also highlight the dangers of violent online games while promoting Indian ethos in toys and games.

1702. मोदी ने किया नए युग के इंडिया पोस्ट पेमेंट्स बैंक का उद्घाटन, अब आपके घर पर चलकर आएगा बैंक
- 1 सितंबर, 2018 को प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने नई दिल्ली के तालकटोरा स्टेडियम में इंडिया पोस्ट पेमेंट्स बैंक (आईपीपीबी) का उद्घाटन किया। इस बैंक का उद्देश्य डाक विभाग के विशाल नेटवर्क और लगभग 300,000 डाकियों और ग्रामीण डाक कर्मचारियों के माध्यम से देश के हर नागरिक तक बैंकिंग सेवाएँ पहुँचाना है, जिससे सबसे दूरदराज के इलाकों में भी बैंकिंग की सुविधा पहुँच सके।
- आईपीपीबी अन्य बैंकों की तरह काम करता है लेकिन ऋण या क्रेडिट कार्ड जारी नहीं करता है; ग्राहक 1 लाख रुपये तक जमा कर सकते हैं, और धन हस्तांतरण, मोबाइल भुगतान, एटीएम/डेबिट कार्ड, नेट बैंकिंग और तीसरे पक्ष के फंड ट्रांसफर जैसी सेवाओं का लाभ उठा सकते हैं।
- लॉन्च के समय, आईपीपीबी की 650 शाखाएं और 3,250 एक्सेस प्वाइंट थे, जिसका लक्ष्य दिसंबर 2018 तक देश भर के सभी 155,000 डाकघरों को जोड़ना है। बैंक आधार, क्यूआर कार्ड और बायोमेट्रिक्स के माध्यम से खाता खोलने और लेनदेन की अनुमति देता है, जिससे ग्रामीण और दूरदराज के क्षेत्रों में वित्तीय समावेशन को बढ़ावा मिलता है।

1703. Amazon India Launches Toyathon Challenge 2020 to Support Aatmanirbhar Toy Tech Innovation
- Amazon India launched the Toyathon Challenge on 3 December 2020, a pan-India toy hackathon, to foster innovation in the Indian toy industry and support aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
- The challenge, a 9–12-week virtual event, aimed to discover unique and innovative toy ideas from students in Indian higher education institutions.
- It encouraged the development of eco-friendly, physical, or hybrid toys using technologies like IoT, sensors, AR/VR, and AI.

1704. National action plan for toys industry, mega textile park scheme under consideration: Govt
- A National Toy Fair was proposed between Feb 27 – Mar 3, 2021, and broader national action plan involving 14 ministries to develop 13 identified handicraft toy clusters.
- Government is drafting a National Action Plan for Toys with Mega Integrated Textile Parks initiative under consideration. Proposed toy growth mission targets 15–20% annual industry growth.
- Mega textiles plan aims for 7 parks under PM MITRA with an investment of ₹4,445 crore and expected 70,000 crore economic investment, creating ~20 lakh jobs by 2026 27.
- The government is considering launching Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (MITRA) Parks over 1,000 acres, alongside 59 approved textile parks (22 completed so far), to provide modern infrastructure and R&D labs.
- India became the 2nd largest PPE manufacturer with 1,100 units producing up to 4.5 lakh kits/day during COVID-19. For Silk Mark products, online sales began via Amazon, with Flipkart discussions underway.

1705. India’s first toy manufacturing cluster in Karnataka wants to create over 1 lakh jobs
- On 9 July 2021, Karnataka CM laid the foundation for India’s first toy manufacturing cluster in Koppal, spread over 400 acres, costing $545 million and Promoted by Aequs SEZ Pvt Ltd in collaboration with the state government.
- The cluster will include 100+ units, generating 25,000–30,000 direct jobs and over 1 lakh indirect jobs. Priority will be given to local workers and women, with salary increases from ₹200 to ₹600/day promised.
- Six companies signed MoUs with a total initial investment of $200+ million, including Playgro, Hotshot Tooling, Aequs Force, and more. The cluster includes SEZ, Domestic Tariff Area, and Free Trade Warehousing Zone with full facilities for moulding, assembly, packaging, testing, and warehousing.
- Aequs to provide skill training for locals and 80% of jobs reserved for residents of Koppal and surrounding areas. Koppal’s location is strategically connected to major ports (Mumbai, Chennai, etc.) and cities (Bengaluru, Hyderabad).

1706. Toy imports decline in 3 years as India registers 8k MSMEs for manufacturing
- On 22 December 2021-8,366 MSMEs are registered in toy manufacturing under Udyog Aadhaar and NIC 2008 codes, reflecting growing domestic capabilities. Global toy industry is worth ₹7 trillion.
- Under the Toys (Quality Control) Order, 2021, all toys for children under 14 must be certified by BIS. Non-compliance leads to criminal liability under the BIS Act, 2016 (including fines and imprisonment).
- Govt increased Basic Customs Duty on toys from 20% to 60%. These steps are meant to prevent unsafe and low-quality toy imports, especially from China.
- Government promotes "Made in India" toys, Designs inspired by Indian culture, values, and history, Toy-based learning tools and Development of indigenous toy clusters across India.

1707. Micro Plastics India to set up toy manufacturing facility with Rs 500 cr investment in Tamil Nadu
- On 19 May 2022, Micro Plastic India Ltd set up a toy manufacturing plant at Hosur in Tamil Nadu with an investment of Rs 500 crore. Micro Plastics India Ltd has leased a 7,00,000 sq ft.
- Industrial space in Hosur for the setting of India's largest toy manufacturing plant and expected to generate employment to the tune of 6,000 in the next 3 to 4 years.
- The company expects a 300% growth in the next few years, aiming to make India one of the top toy manufacturing hubs in Asia.

1708. India’s tyre exports hit an all-time high of 25,051cr in FY24-25
- On 2 July 2025, it was reported in Chennai, based on Commerce Ministry data, that India’s tyre exports hit a record ₹25,051 crore in FY24-25, registering a 9% increase from ₹23,073 crore in the previous fiscal, despite global headwinds and proposed US tariffs.
- India exports tyres to 170 countries, with farm and off-the-road (OTR) tyres contributing 60% of the export value. The US (17%), Germany (6%), and Brazil (5%) are major buyers. The industry has invested ₹27,000 crore in new and expanded facilities and is actively diversifying its markets amid trade uncertainties.
- With a turnover of ₹1 lakh crore, 25% of the Indian tyre industry's revenue comes from exports. A PwC Vision report forecasts the sector will grow at a CAGR of 11–12% until 2047, fueled by increased focus on R&D and infrastructure expansion.

1709. Centre approves Rs 1,900 crore plan for PM MITRA park in Virudhunagar
- On July 01, 2025, in Chennai, Union Textiles Minister announced the approval of a ₹1,894-crore project for developing the PM MITRA Textile Park at Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu, as part of the central flagship scheme for the textile sector.
- The 1,052-acre park, finalized after negotiations between the Tamil Nadu government and the Centre, will feature technical textile units, effluent and sewage treatment plants, worker accommodations, and plug-and-play factory spaces.
- Tamil Nadu joins six other states (Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh) selected for PM MITRA parks, reinforcing its status as India’s top textile exporter and pushing for further industrial growth and employment generation.

1710. 100th indigenously manufactured stealth frigate Udaygiri delivered to Indian Navy
- The delivery of the indigenously-built stealth frigate Udaygiri On 01 July, 2025 at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDSL), Mumbai, marked a milestone as the 100th ship designed and delivered by the Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau.
- Udaygiri was constructed using the 'Integrated Construction' method, enabling faster build time (delivered in 37 months from launch).
- Udaygiri symbolizes Atmanirbhar Bharat in shipbuilding, with major indigenous components, and reflects a quantum leap in India’s naval design capability. The remaining five ships of the P17A class are under construction at MDSL and GRSE and are scheduled for delivery by 2026.
